The Nigerian wife of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mrs Salamatu Gbajabiamila, has praised the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for its initiative promoting women’s health through regular aerobics and health walk exercises.
Mrs Gbajabiamila gave the commendation during DEPOWA’s monthly aerobics and health walk held in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
She said, “This was truly fantastic. I feel so inspired. I’m going to use it to go back on my fitness journey.“
She described it as wonderful that all over Nigeria, people would see that women are waking up and still going out and exercising.
Earlier, the President of DEPOWA, Mrs Oghogho Musa, said, “The turnout of the exercise was encouraging, which showed that women took it seriously and want to improve on their health.“
The DEPOWA President noted that there were positive changes considering last year’s exercises and this one, saying more changes are coming.
According to her, there are many things and exercises lined up for DEPOWA to do, like hiking, yoga and many more.
She encouraged women to continue the exercise at home, then they come together once a month to also do this as sisters and then as an association to encourage themselves.
She said, “By next week, they are going to be sending their exercise videos to see whether they are keeping up with what they are doing.”
According to her, control of the portion of their diet is very important, as overall living is 80% the food they take in and 20% exercise.
The Defence Health Maintenance Limited, Dr Oluwayisi Adegboye, emphasised that exercise is the best investment one can give oneself because whatever one is doing, it is for the future.
According to her, no matter how beautiful one’s dreams are, no matter how beautiful the vision is, and no matter how awesome the goals are, if you don’t do well to take care of this body, then all those dreams, all those aspirations, and all those goals would come to nothing.
She said, “the number one reason why we need to take care of ourselves is the number one reason why we need to take care of ourselves and i want to tell you that physical activity is also the best medicine i’ve said two things now or three things the best gift well that’s the second one the best investment you can give yourself and you can take care of yourself and the third one is what the best medicine, don’t wait until you start popping in those fields they may never end but when you’re doing your physical activities and you did well that’s the best medicine you can give yourself and i tell you that this same medicine we’re talking about it cares for all types of mental diseases that you can ever think of especially the chronic diseases.
You need to balance the rewards you put into your stomach; you need to be careful with what you eat. So, if you say, anyway, no matter what I eat, I go to the gym, I do my exercises, and I think I can eat whatever I want, it is not good for you. And why am I saying this? I’m saying this because this message is not just for us; it is for us to ensure that we tell our children about it and tell everyone around us about it.”
Actress Mercy Johnson-Okoje stressed that every single time she stands before anyone, and it has to do with a health talk, it’s just one line she always says.
She said that “You have 99 problems until you have a health problem. Once your body becomes weak and you have a health problem, you realise that you have just one problem, which is going to be your health.”
“Because if you see people who do BBL, after a while, you eat, you don’t take care of yourself, you get enlarged again, and then you have to go back and back and under the knife. Why go under the knife and risk your life when you can work out and live well?”
“So, because I’m a testimony, I have no scars, no marks, no BBL; we talk it, so it means we can do it.”
According to her, as women, when you’re healthy, your child is healthy, and your husband is good.
Before the commencement of the walk, a medical outreach was conducted for all participants.
