Deputy Speaker Sympathises With Victims Of Onitsha Market Fire

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has sympathised with victims who lost their valuables in the fire incident at Onitsha Main Market, Anambra State.

In a message to the affected traders and property owners, Kalu urged security agencies to promptly investigate the cause of the fire and take measures to prevent future occurrences.

He commended the fire service agency and individuals who made efforts in ensuring that the inferno was put off.

The Deputy Speaker urged “the traders and residents to adhere to safety regulation and precautionary measures to prevent future occurrences.”

Kalu who expressed relief that no life was lost, called on National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to immediately provide relief materials for victims to cushion of the incident on them.

According to reports, a fire broke out over the weekend at Onitsha Main Market, the commercial hub of Anambra State. The blaze started in one of the market’s buildings and quickly spread to a nearby structure.
