Dessers’s goal not enough as Feyernoord are beaten
It should have been tenth time lucky for Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers as he scored his 10th goal for Dutch side Feyenoord.
But it was not enough as the Rotterdam side lost 2-1 After Extra-Time (AET) to FC Twente in a Dutch FA Cup game Wednesday.
Dessers opened scores on on 47 minutes to set the stage for what would have been a routine win in the KNVB Beker.
But that lead was punctured when Twente’s right-back Giovanni Troupée equalized on 79 minutes.
With no winners in Normal Time, the match moved into Extra-Time and penalties beckoned.
Then with few minutes left, 19-year old Costa Rican striker Manfred Ugalde sealed the win for Twente.
Dessers may have to focus on the Dutch League as well as the Europa Conference league for silverware this season.
But more significantly, he will get a look-in from the new Super Eagles team management ahead of the 2022 AFCON tournament in Cameroun.
