The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has urged Volunteers, deployed to Seychelles and Sierra Leone, to wholeheartedly dedicate themselves to their mission.
During a deployment ceremony in Abuja, NTAC’s Director General, Mr. Buba Yakubu, emphasised the significance of this initiative, highlighting Nigeria’s 37-year commitment to supporting fellow developing countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific under the United Nations’ South-South Co-operation framework.
Mr. Yakubu praised President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support of NTAC’s objectives and recognised the remarkable impact of over 10,000 Volunteers who, over the years, have served in more than forty countries, showcasing their exceptional skills, simplicity, and dedication that have earned the admiration of their host nations.
He encouraged the Volunteers to overcome any challenges that might impede their service. “You may come from comfortable homes in Nigeria, but please adapt to your new environment,” he advised. “Your commitment to excellence will reflect positively on Nigeria and our President. If you face any difficulties, do not hesitate to reach out to our Mission in your host country,” the DG said.
Mr. Yakubu assured the Volunteers that the tripartite agreement they will sign with NTAC and the host countries will outline all responsibilities and support provided by the organisation.
Amb. Zakari Usman, Director of Programmes at NTAC, called on the Volunteers to uphold the standards set by their predecessors and to consistently exemplify the best qualities of Nigeria in competence and character during their time abroad.
In a show of gratitude, Mr. Salmanu Mamman-Shatta, speaking on behalf of the Volunteers, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the opportunity to serve and committed to making the most of their 24-month service period.
