Digital Markets Act: EU to Review Apple’s iPad OS Compliance
The European Commission announced on Monday that EU antitrust regulators will review whether Apple’s iPad operating system aligns with the bloc’s landmark rules, the Digital Markets Act (DMA), aimed at curbing Big Tech’s influence.
The review by the EU executive, which enforces competition rules across the bloc, follows Apple’s release of a compliance report for iPad OS, identified by the Commission in April as a significant gateway for businesses to reach their customers.

“The Commission will now carefully assess whether the measures adopted for iPad OS are effective in meeting the DMA obligations,” stated the EU antitrust watchdog. “This assessment will also consider feedback from relevant stakeholders,” it added.
The Digital Markets Act (DMA), which came into effect earlier this year, mandates that Apple allow users to set their preferred default web browser on iPads, permit alternative app stores on its operating system, and enable headphones and smart pens to access iPad OS features.
