A public presentation of a book, Dear President Goodluck Jonathan, which captures and projects the unique personality of Dr Jonathan’s policy thrust, successes and the mitigating factors in the accomplishment of governance during his tenure, has been launched in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Author of the book, Bonaventure Melah, a former Managing Editor of Daily Times Newspaper, showcased the strong leadership attributes and passion for peace and security as exemplified by the former Nigerian President.
He placed emphasis on the call former President Jonathan put across to the incumbent President, Mohammadu Buhari during the 2015 general elections, congratulating him and conceding defeat even when election processes were on-going.
Top serving and past government officials at the event applauded the gesture of the former Nigerian leader who placed national interest over and above personal political ambition.
They unanimously said Dr Jonathan’s words matched his action when he repeatedly said his political ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.
The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel who at the event said Dr Jonathan was his role model, reiterated that his quality leadership style and high level of humility should be emulated by all leaders.
Also, the Chairman of the occasion, the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammed who was represented by the former Minister of Special Duties, Aminu Turaki said Dr Jonathan’s style of leadership believes in keeping Nigeria united.
He said Jonathan during the 2015 elections repeatedly directed that the vote of every Nigerian must count.
On his part, the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje described Dr Jonathan as an international icon and a peacebuilder, adding that Jonathan’s actions in 2015 were the first of its kind not only in Nigeria but in Africa and the world at large.
A former Senator, Dino Maleye in his goodwill message apologise to Dr Jonathan for consisted criticizing his administration.
According to him, with all the criticism, the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has never arrested him for one day which redefines Dr Jonathan as a new face of modern democracy which impacted Nigeria’s socio-political and economic spaces at every stage.
Other speakers described the former president as a citizen of the world who is internationally respected which.
According to them, the historic call to the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, conceding defeat in the Presidential elections and congratulating him, remains a defining moment in Nigeria’s democracy and a reference point in the study on democratic leadership across the African continent.
Zainab Sa’id
