Directorate Trains 50 Youths in Edo State Under Post-SADTS
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) flag-off training for 50 youths in Edo State under its Post-Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (Post-SADTS).
The post-SADTS programme, according to NDE, is one of its job creation programme developed to enhance agricultural skills and performances of the beneficiaries, targeting food production and supply increase, and poverty reduction in the country Declaring the training open, the Director General of NDE Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo who was represented by Solomon Edobor, the Edo State Coordinator, explained that the 50 beneficiaries would be trained on government Agricultural policies and their impact on employment creation.
According to the Director General, the Post Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (POST-SADTS) is a specialized one-week training on the practical application of government agricultural policies and provision of incentives to further create employment and promote high productivity in the Agricultural Sector for graduates of the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS).
“The POST-SADTS also seeks to remove the drudgery in processing agricultural enterprises and provide every necessary information needed to source for funding. It identifies agricultural sector employment interventions initiated by the government and prepares beneficiaries to key into these interventions and source of funding for their projects”, he said.
He further noted that the trainees would be educated on the place of improved varieties/inputs in Agriculture for increased productivity, the economic importance of raising livestock and its products in Nutrition and feeding and Weed Control Methods and their impact on crop yield.
He identified that the beneficiaries would also be trained on insect and Pest Control Measures to mitigate post-harvest losses, viable income-generating agribusinesses that can attract Loans/grants from Government and Donor Agencies, business plan, Concept and development, the importance of record keeping in Agriculture and introduction to co-operative formations.
Counseling the beneficiaries, the Edo state NDE Coordinator, Mr. Solomon Edobor said the training is to assist them in enhancing their capacity and knowledge towards bumper harvest, just as he also assured them that the Directorate is considering ways to assist them after the training.
