Nigerian Lawmaker Commends D’Tigress, Super Falcons

Nigerian lawmaker Hon. Ekene Abubakar preached for peace and Unity Among Sports Stakeholders In Nigeria, while saluting D’Tigress and Super Falcons performances at International outings.

Newly appointed Chairman, House Committee on Sports in Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Ekene Adams Abubakar has called on all sports stakeholders in the country to come together and embrace peace for the growth and development of sports in the country.

 

Hon. Abubakar who made the appeal in Abuja at a media session assured that for wider consultations, their doors will continually be open to every stakeholder to come and offer an advice, which will help in the growth and development of sports in the country.

 

The Kaduna state born lawmaker said with the support of every stakeholders in the country, legislators will bring about the desired change that Nigerians are yearning for.

 

“All am preaching is that we must come together to embrace peace, we are legislators, we believe we will legislate to do the laws and send it to the executives for them to implement. I also want to believe with the support of each and every one of you, we are going to bring that desired change and the dream of every Nigerian. This is the dream we have been having, this is the Nigeria we want to see, each and every one of us that legislates will work with you, work with the executives to advise and see how we will achieve this feat and sports will come back from it’s lost glory” Hon. Abubakar said.

 

Hon. Abubakar equally used the opportunity to congratulate Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress as well as the women’s national football team, the Super Falcons for their impressive showing at the ongoing 2023 Afrobasket in Rwanda and the FIFA women’s world cup in Australia and New Zealand.

 

He said both teams have made the country proud in their various competitions, and prayed for continuous support so that sports in Nigeria will remain a force to reckon with across the globe.

 

“Let me congratulate the D’Tigress for progressing to the knockout rounds of the women’s Afrobasket in Rwanda. I’ll also congratulate our Super Falcons for qualifying for the second round of the FIFA women’s world cup in Australia and New Zealand. Nigerians are happy with their performances. We don’t and won’t relegate our women, so we are proud of the girls for making us proud” the former general manager of NPFL side Remo Stars FC of Ikene stated.

 

On the bill for the return of the National Sports Commission and the establishment of sports university, Hon. Abubakar assured that he and other members of the House Committee on Sports will follow up the bill and ensure that it is passed and possibly assented to by the government.

 

He called on stakeholders and the media to join hands with the Sports committee in the development of sports in the country.

 

A planned meeting with all stakeholders was initially scheduled for Thursday, August 3rd 2023, but has now been shifted to a later date due to a planned nationwide protest by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Dignitaries at the media parley were some past and present National Assembly members including Hon. Engr. Mohammed Buba Jajere, the Deputy Chairman, House of Representative Committee on Sports, Hon. Aliya Bappa Misau and Hon. Ali Gaiya, former Chairman, House of Representative Committee on Sports.
