Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has emphasised the need for resilience, unity, and renewed commitment among troops, urging personnel of the Nigerian Army to remain focused and steadfast in their duties despite challenges as they celebrate Easter.
The Army Chief, who delivered the message through a representative, Commander Infantry Corps Major General Godwin Mutkut, extended warm Easter greetings to officers, soldiers, and their families, while acknowledging the sacrifices and dedication of personnel serving across various operational theatres, including Plateau State.
He reassured them that criticism encountered in the line of duty should not discourage them, but rather serve as motivation to strengthen their resolve.
Drawing inspiration from the Easter season, he highlighted the significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, noting that it symbolises sacrifice, hope, and triumph, values that align closely with the responsibilities of soldiers.
“Let me stress that perseverance through hardship remains key to achieving success in both military operations and personal conduct,” he added.

The Army Chief described the coincidence of Easter and the holy month of Ramadan as a unique moment of unity within the Nigerian Army.
“The shared period of fasting and reflection among Christian and Muslim personnel underscores the bond and collective purpose that define the force. I want to commend troops for your professionalism and sacrifice.
The Nigerian Army has recorded significant achievements in 2026 across its operations, formations, and training institutions. I attribute these successes to the unwavering commitment of personnel in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and ensuring peace and stability,” he said.
General Shuaibu also paid tribute to soldiers currently deployed across the country, many of whom remain away from their families while maintaining vigilance and courage. He honoured fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, offering prayers for their souls and reaffirming the Army’s commitment to their welfare.
“I want to assure personnel that their welfare remains central, with ongoing efforts to improve living conditions, enhance professional development, and strengthen support systems. I urge you all to uphold integrity, accountability, and respect for the rule of law in all engagements,” he said.
He concluded by calling for sustained collaboration among security agencies and urged troops to embrace the spirit of Easter through renewed dedication, unity, and innovation in addressing emerging security challenges and preserving national peace.
