The Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo, AE-FUNAI, Ebonyi state, is set to hold its 6th convocation ceremony on the 14th December, 2021.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sunday Elom disclosed this during the press briefing to mark the commencement of the activities preceding the convocation.
The Vice Chancellor said in keeping with the University’s culture, they are starting the year’s convocation activity with the press conference, which is regarded as a crucial aspect of the Convocation Ceremony “because it provides a platform for the University to interact with the members of the fourth estate of the realm and to project our activities and achievements to the larger society”
“This is a very memorable and unique event because it is the first pre-convocation press conference that I am hosting as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike.”
Elom said he assumed duty on the 11th February, 2021 as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike with a three-point agenda of sustaining, consolidating and expanding the achievements of the two previous administrations. Incidentally, I was also part of the two previous administrations.
Security
He said Constitution of a university-wide security committee comprising staff, students, host community representatives and members of security agencies is of great importance.
He said NUC has accredited 11 programs in April and November this year.
Pre-Clinical Accreditation of our Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Science MBBS programme by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, which has led to the commencement of clinical training for our pioneer medical students in October this year.
“On this 6th convocation ceremony coming up on Tuesday, 14th December, 2021, I wish to state as follows:
We will be turning out 900 graduands in 10 faculties with the following degree classifications:
First Class 20
Second Class Upper 306
Second Class Lower 494
Third Class 79
Pass 1
While explaining Agency Banking in Collaboration with Zenith Bank, Professor Elom said the Institution has established the Agency Banking in the university to take care of the banking needs of members of staff, students and host community. “Prior to this, there was no bank in the university and its environs. Plans have reached advanced stage for our Microfinance Bank,” he said.
He said the University has sunk hand-driven boreholes to provide alternative sources of water supply to hostels and faculties, courtesy of the University Parent’s Forum.
University Ranking
“According to a leading global ranking body based in Turkey, AD Scientific Index, our University ranked 32 out of 167 universities in Nigeria on the quality of scientists in 2021. The July 2021 edition of Webometric World University ranking, AE-FUNAI ranked 50 out of 279 tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Also in the African Continent, AE-FUNAI was ranked 279 out of 1,952 Institutions. Globally AE-FUNAI ranked 6,006 out of 11,987 institutions in 2021,”he said
Academic Calendar
“Sustaining the culture of keeping to the academic calendar which led to the graduation and mobilization of our students for NYSC batch B programme for July/August, 2021,” he said.
He adds that AE-FUNAI was the only public university in Nigeria that mobilised students for NYSC in the batch B 2019/2020 academic session.
