The Commander of Nkwagu Military Cantonment, Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria, Lieutenant Colonel Audu Bako, has called on Nigerians to pay their respects to the members of the Fallen Heroes of the Nigerian Army.

Lieutenant Colonel Bako made the call during the grand finale of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day held at Unity Square in Abakaliki, the state capital.

In his address, Bako emphasised the significant contributions of these heroes in safeguarding the nation against external threats. He noted that the annual celebration serves as a vital ritual to honour those who have fought for the country’s security.

Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. Francis Nwifuru, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army for their efforts in maintaining safety and order in the state, preventing hoodlums from gaining a foothold.

He also pledged to improve welfare for the families of the fallen heroes, ensuring they receive the support they deserve.

Among those present was Mrs. Okum Amuche, the widow of fallen hero Mr. Ekuma Awoh, who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

She appealed to both the federal and state governments for assistance, highlighting the struggles she and her children face in the absence of their provider.
