Ebonyi State House of Assembly has declared the seat of the Deputy Speaker, Mr Odefa Obasi Odefa, representing Onitsha East state constituency vacant on the ground of his alleged resignation from being a member of both All Progressives Congress (APC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the House.

The Speaker of the House, Mr Ogbonna Nwifuru, disclosed this to journalists after the House plenary in Abakaliki the State Capital.

Mr Speaker said he has pieces of evidence proving Mr Odefa’s resignation.

“Firstly, he resigned from being a member of People’s Democratic Party PDP; secondly, he resigned from being a member of the House of Assembly. All these led members of the House to convene and declare his seat open.

“If Odefa is in doubt concerning the resignation, we can publish his handwritten resignation letter addressed to Mr Speaker,” Nwifuru added.

The Onitsha East State Constituency member, Mr Odefa Obasi Odefa, denied the alleged resignation, saying that a few mischievous members deliberately did it.

“There was never a time I resigned from any political party or from being a member of the House, but I believe that the law will take its course on those who forged my signature,” Odefa said.

He called on security agencies to help safeguard him and his family as threats were coming from different angles and even plots to eliminate him.
