The Ebonyi State Association, Greater Manchester, UK, has reaffirmed the collective commitment to promoting cultural identity, strengthening community bonds, and advancing development initiatives for Ebonyi indigenes across the UK.
The Association made the commitment during its First Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The President of the Association, Dr. Ndukwe Walter Ugwuocha, commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his visionary leadership in sponsoring students to Greater Manchester to pursue world-class training in technology, innovation, and other strategic development fields.
He noted that “the Governor’s investment in human capital development positions Ebonyi State for long-term global competitiveness.”
A major highlight of the AGM was the formal admission of all Ebonyi State Government–sponsored scholarship students currently studying in Greater Manchester into the Association.
The president noted that “the scholars represent the future of the state and will benefit from mentorship, welfare support, and community engagement.”
Speaking on behalf of the students, Mr. Isaiah Ifeanyi Nweze, President of the FON Scholars, expressed deep appreciation to the Association for its warm welcome.
He assured members that the students would conduct themselves responsibly, engage positively within the community, and work hard to make Ebonyi State proud.
The Secretary of the Association, Dr. Nnenna Umoke, advised the students to remain focused on their studies, abide by local laws, and maintain discipline at all times.
She reiterated that their behaviour and academic performance would reflect both on the state and the Association.
The AGM also celebrated the Association’s cultural achievement in leading Ebonyi State’s delegation to the 2025 Manchester Igbo new yam Festival, where the state’s rich cultural heritage was proudly showcased.
The meeting ended with renewed unity, strengthened collaboration, and a shared commitment to advancing the welfare and visibility of Ebonyi people across Greater Manchester.
