Following the alleged killings by herdsmen at Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria, Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has visited Ebonyi to console with and also to map out strategy to fish out the perpetrators.
Osibanjo condoles with the people of Egedege Community in Ishielu Local Government Area where Innocent people were allegedly killed by herdsmen.
“These killings are highly condemned and no one can defend such evil act. It is unacceptable and must do all possible things to unveil the killers”. Osinbajo noted.
He challenged the security operatives to ensure that they maintain peace at all costs.
He promised that Nigeria Government will compensate those who have lost their lives and properties in the massacre.
He urged Ebonyi people to remain peaceful as Nigeria Government would do all it can to fish our perpetrators.
He thanked them for not taking law into their hands.
The Governor of the State, Engr David Umahi thanked His Excellency the Vice President for coming to share in the painful mood the State finds itself.
“All the Governors in the Southeast suffer so much to ensure that there is mutual living in their States”
“We demands for investigation on what happened and to bring to book the pepatrators of the unprovoked killings by the Herdsmen. The said herdsmen have been living together with that Community for many years now and as matter of fact, that killings ought not to be”
He thanked Ebonyi people for being law abiding.
ON EFFIUM CRISIS
The Governor requested for four hundred military men and four hundred mobile Police Officers to restore permanent peace in the Area.
The former Governor of the State Chief Martin Elechi also present at the occasion thanked the Vice President for sacrificing his religious obligation as a Christian to come and condole people of Ebonyi.
“The security issue in the Country has been a huge embarrassment to the country“. Elechi said.
He promised the Vice President to collaborate with him to bring the perpetrators to book.
The Chairman of Afikpo South Local Government Area of the State Barrister Iniuduma Chima said Ebonyi is a place of hospitality.
“We received visitors irrespective of where they are coming from.
We are people of tolorance and accommodating spirit, Ebonyi doesn’t rejected visitors no matter the tribe“. Chima said.
“Herders have been dealing with our people in different Local Government Area of the State, despite the efforts of the state Government to incorporate herders to ensure peaceful coexistence between us”. He added.
He urged His Excellency the Vice President to do all he can to solve insecurity challenge in the country.
