The Magistrate Court sitting in Abakaliki has remanded  the Labour Party LP Senatorial Candidate, Mr Linus Okorie in Nigeria’s Correctional Center.

This was contained in the ruling of the Magistrate who handled the matter, Magistrate Lynda Ogodo  in Abakaliki the State capital.

The Magistrate said the suspect, Mr Linus Okorie was remanded based on five count charges which include drug related matters among other things.

Consequently upon this, the Lead Counsel to Mr Linus Okorie, Barrister Nome Chikodi said what happened in the Magistrate Court is total abuse of the Court since some of the charges robbed the magistrate the jurisdiction to entertain and grant the suspect a bail.

We have the details of the charges already which we opposed the reading of the charges before the court. Because in our humble view, it constitutes an abuse of Court processes”

“Already, there’s a judgement by the Federal High Court by Justice Ekwo  restraining Nigeria Police from arresting Honourable Linus Okorie, which is still valid on the subject matter,” he said.

Barrister Nome further informed that the intention of the Ebonyi State Government is to jail the suspect and to distract Mr Linus Okorie and his supporters since he is the Leading Senatorial Candidate for LP in the State.

But Law must take its course since no one is above the Law”

The Matter was adjourned to 4th November, 2022.
