Ebonyi Government Approves 13,000 Bags of Fertilizer For Farmers

Ebonyi State Government has approved the procurement and distribution of  13,000 bags of fertilizer to Ebonyi Farmers to Boost agricultural produce in the State.

The State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation Engr Jude Okpor stated this while briefing Journalists on the outcome of the last meeting of the State Executive Council EXCO in Abakaliki the State Capital.

Engr Okpor said “The Executive Council received a report on the commencement of fertilizer production by the Ebonyi State Fertilizer and Chemical Company in accordance with the directive of the last Exco meeting and consequently approved the procurement and distribution of Thirteen Thousand (13,000) bags of fertilizers to farmers across the state”

Power Energy

The Commissioner said the state government is set to  repair 33 units of transformers for redeployment into the electricity network across the state, Council resolved to direct the Honourable Commissioner for Power and Energy to consult with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC with a view to arriving at a mutually beneficial agreement with the state government before returning to the next Exco with the memo for possible consideration.

Commerce and industry

State Executive Council approved the reactivation of fund for Small and Medium Scale Industries Credit Scheme with an initial capital of Fifty Million Naira only.

The executives also approved the constitution of a Recovery Committee to  ensure repayment by beneficiaries so as to guarantee the sustenance of the scheme.

Solid Minerals

They also granted approval to the Ministry of Solid Minerals to initiate the process of establishing a Lead and Zinc Processing Plant alongside a Buying Center in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Tertiary Education

Okpor said that “It’s unequivocally correct to say that the present administration has been in power for almost two months, consequently, council approved an upward review of the monthly Subvention to Ebonyi State University, EBSU from N150m to N200m. The Council also approved the release of the sum of N300m earlier promised by the immediate past administration to the University. Holistically, the total sum of N700m will be released to Ebonyi State University as directed by Executive.”

Capital City and Urban Planning

In line with the avowed determination of the state to improve the aesthetic nature of the capital city, Council resolved to direct the Commissioner for Capital City and Urban Planning to develop a masterplan towards upgrading the state capital into a 21st Century Smart City. Particularly, Council approved the construction of Bus Shelters with Water Closets in strategic points across the state capital and further directed the Commissioner to work with his Water Resources counterparts for implementation. The interlocking of the  walkways and non concrete covered medians along the major dual carriage ways was also approved by Council to be jointly executed by the Ministry of Capital City and the Ministry of Environment. Council also approved the engagement of workers whose renumeration will be equivalent to medical workers to ensure the maintenance of the Bus Shelters at all times.

Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs

The Ebonyi State Executive Council approved the construction of a befitting duplex for each of the Traditional Rulers presently holding sway in their respective communities across the state in fulfilment of the campaign promise of our governor, His Excellency, Rt. Honourable Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

Roads

The following roads across the state received the approval of council for construction;  Construction of 41km road from Obubara Junction to Oferekpe — to be splitted into four Lots.

Reconstruction of 19km  Obvudechi – Iziogo road — to be splitted into two lots.

Construction of 31. 827km Oferekpe- Agbaja road, Construction of 12.81km Ishieke Odomoke Ekebiligwe – Isophu – Nworie road and Construction of 1.3km Ebonyi Agro Dealers Market road Onuebonyi.

Others were: Construction of Ogboenyi road off Ndibe beach road, Afikpo, Construction of Itara-Dr.Akanu Ibiam-Oyoyo-Erei Road, Unwana.

The Commissioner for Information finally informed that  EXCO approved the purchase of vehicles for Executive Council members, House of Assembly members and Security Agencies.
