The Ebonyi  State High Court sitting in Abakaliki has adjourned the arraignment of the Spokesperson of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Mr Chika Nwoba, till January 14, 2022, on the condition of ill-health. Mr Nwoba was arrested by the Ebubeagu security outfit on January 9, 2022, and handed over to the Ebonyi state police over an alleged online publication criticising the activities of the Ebonyi state government.

The Magistrate in charge of the case, Mrs Blessing Chukwu, disclosed this to journalists during the court session.

She made the adjournment based on the appeal by the Defence Counsel, Barrister Luke Nkwegu, that the PDP Publicity Secretary who slumped during the court session should be taken to the hospital for proper treatment, then to the court to face the charges.

Consequently, Barr Nkwegu thanked the court for giving Mr Nwoba time to regain his health before coming for the subsequent trial.

“It would have been an aberration trying him while unconscious. But thank God the Magistrate heeded to my appeal,” Nkwegu added.

Moreso, the prosecuting Counsel, Barrister Mathias Eze, also agreed that it is good as the Magistrate adjourned the case to enable the Public Secretary to regain his sight.

“No court of competent jurisdiction can try an unconscious or dead person,” he said.
