Ebonyi State Government Southeast Nigeria has joined its counterpart in the world to commemorate the 2023 World Health Workers’ Week through the State Ministry of Health.
The yearly event gives an opportunity to celebrate workers who have made sacrifices in improviseng the health sectors in Nigeria.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Daniel Umezurike, represented by the Director of Planning Research and Statistics, Mrs Adanna Ugwoke disclosed this while addressing Journalists during the event at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki the State capital.
The event was marked by a road walk which started from the Old Government House, through the Old Enugu-Abakaliki expressway back to the Stadium.
The entire health sector workforce and Stakeholders participated in the road walk sensitisation on the need to invest in health workers’ safety and security through health insurance.
Mrs Ugwoke said “world health workers’ week is a yearly event celebrated in appreciation of what health workers have been doing globally to save lives. So Ebonyi State is not in isolation.
“Today, Ebonyi State is commemorating the 2023 World Health Workers’ Week in a grand style.
“May I use this opportunity to also let you know that the State team is investing in health workers’ safety and security through health insurance.”
She appreciated the efforts of the Ebonyi State Government for the infrastructural development of the various health facilities in the State.
She however appealed to the incoming Government to give priority to the area of human resources for health.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘Investing In Health Workers’ Safety And Security Through Health Insurance’.
