Ebonyi State Government says the change of Democracy day from 29th May to June 12, was described as a welcomed development in the State and Southeast Nigeria as well.
The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Boarder Peace and Conflict Resolution, Dr. Donatus Ilang disclosed this in an interview with Voice of Nigeria Correspondent in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria.
Ilang said the change was good to give honour to Moshood Abiola who is generally describe as father of Democracy in the Country.
The Commissioner further informed that Democracy Dividends under the leadership of Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have benefited the State in Education, Health, security, agriculture, social life, economic development and infrastructural Development.
He Urged the people of the State to continue to give support to President Tinubu so that more Democracy Dividends would come to the State.
“The Change of the date of Democracy day from 29th May to June 12 is a show of love to moshood Abiola, it also signifies what democracy stands for. We all know the role played by Abiola for the sustenance of Democracy and the election which recognised him as an elected leader, which should also be called the most free and fair election in the history of Nigeria,” he explained.
Dividend of Democracy
The Commissioner said, in general, there is an even distribution of democracy dividends in the country.
“Well if you should look at dividends of democracy across the Country and in southeast in particular, you will discover that there is even distribution of democracy dividends in the country. And for us in the southeast, you should also discover that our road infrastructure, taking Enugu to Onitsha road, Enugu to Port Harcourt, then if you come to Ebonyi State, you will see the super high way ongoing as promised , you will see the revitalisation of Enugu Ebonyi road, that is a welcomed development too.
“An not only that, if you look at our Beach that connects us with neighboring Cross River State, you will see that Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi has started crossing of the bridge under the sponsorship of Federal Government, together with the State,” Ilang added.
