The Governor of Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria, Mr Francis Nwifuru has urged the Corps Members in the State to uphold National Unity, Peace, and Integration, especially during this challenging period.

Governor Nwifuru made this appeal during the Swearing in Ceremony of 2024 Batch ‘A’ stream ‘1’ Corps Members at National Youths Service Corps Permanent Orientation Camp, at Old Macgregor College Afikpo in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the State.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Richard Idike, the Governor said; “Let me once again advise that we must co-exist to achieve this common goal irrespective of our cultural backgrounds. What we need is cooperation and teamwork to forge ahead. Every element of nepotism, corruption, tribalism and ethnicity must be removed from among us as a nation to make the
desired progress”

The National Youth Service Corps in fulfillment of its objectives since inception 50 years ago is promoting national unity, Integration, and accelerating the socio-economic development of the nation as well as instilling in our youths a tradition of industry at work, patriotism, and loyal service to Nigeria. It is a beautiful thing, therefore; bringing people from various institutions, diverse cultures, and backgrounds for service to the fatherland,” Governor Nwifuru said.

He assured them of continuous support and security wherever they are posted.

The Governor promised them that at the end of the service year, the government would honor and reward the outstanding ones among them.

On her part, the NYSC State Coordinator Mrs Oladeinde Foluke said the NYSC scheme was established by decree (now act) NO 24 of 22nd May, 1973, in furtherance to the Nigerian Government post-war policy realising the needed National unity and integration among all the tribes of Nigeria.

Oladeinde said that to achieve this, the service has been carefully planned and segmented into four cardinal programmes namely: Orientation, Primary assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and the winding-up and passing out.

She said; “It is on this note that I urge you to take every aspect of the orientation course Development (SAED) Programme so that you can be trained on different skills.

Prospective Gentlemen corps members, ensure that you read the NYSC Hand books issued to you for a better understanding of our activities here in camp and every aspect of the service year, to be well informed.”

The NYSC Coordinator thanked all who have contributed to making the Swearing-in a success.
