Ebonyi State vows to end Violence Against Women

As part of activities to mark the 2022 International Women’s Day, the Ebonyi state government has vowed to end Violence Against Women in the State.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Chinwe Okah disclosed this to Journalists during a Press Conference held at Osborn La Palm Hotels in Abakaliki the State Capital.

According to Mrs Okah, it is high time that all genders are given equal opportunities to harness their potential.

“Some parents sometimes deny their girl children quality Education and also force them into undesired marriage.

The Commissioner added that women are wonderful entities that have the capability to affect society positively.

“Women never get discouraged in making life better for their husbands and children therefore, women should be loved, cherished and trusted because they are reliable

“So Ebonyi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development is standing up to break the bias against women Andrew girls at different levels and Stages, every gender should be treated equally

We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the law enforcement Agencies, Set up a strong Gender-Based Violence task force, Mobile Court and other GBV response team to ensure quick access to justice.

She urged women to always come out to report cases of GBV to relevant authorities.

Also, the Gender Desk Officer, Ebonyi State Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Onwa Florence said; “Before now, our women used to be afraid of coming out to report Violence against them but now, because of much sensitisation, they are coming out in their numbers to report”.

The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day Celebrate is Break the bias.

The event was in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development- USAID, Momentum Country Global Leadership Project, Ebonyi State Gender-Based Violence Task Force, Jhpiego and other Civil Society Organizations.
