Ebonyi State: YPP Governorship Candidate Advocates Peaceful Electioneering
Moses Nwite, Abakaliki.
The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Ebonyi state, Dr. Sunday Opoke, has called on all the candidates contesting under various political parties to obey the new electoral laws in their campaigns in order to ensure a peaceful election in the state.
Dr. Opoke said this while addressing journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.
He said that if all the candidates should work in accordance with the laws guiding electoral process, there would be no record of violence during the general election.
“Election is simply a process where individuals are thrown into the position of leadership, and people should not see it as a do-or-die affair.
“If you are soliciting for votes from people, it shouldn’t be by threatening the people rather it should be by your ability to convince them.
“For you to be a governor of any state, you should be a person of unquestionable character, a man of competence, capacity and credibility.
“If you are already using violence in your campaign, it has already shown how you are going to rule them: it is going to be a government of high handedness, and automatically, the people will suffer as well,” he explained.
The YPP governorship candidate called on all Ebonyi people of voting age to vote for him.
“I, Sunday Andrew Opoke, will not disappoint you. I will revive all sectors to be functional when you vote for me to become your governor,” he promised.
He further called on the general public to rate every candidate’s antecedents before voting the aspirant into a position of authority.
“If you vote for a thief, definitely you will get what you sow because the resources of the entire state will be stolen for personal use,” he added.
