The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening state-level energy planning and deepening Nigeria’s cooperation with China.

This followed a review meeting between the National Energy Masterplan Implementation Committee (NEMIC) and the Nigeria–China Renewable Energy Research Center (NCREC) at the ECN Headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Mustapha, who chairs NEMIC, received updates on progress made in the four pilot states, Lagos, Kogi, Kwara, and Kano, where State Energy Planning and Implementation (SEPI) Units have been established.

He also formally presented the National Energy Masterplan (NEMP) and National Energy Policy (NEP) documents to the NEMIC and NCREC teams to strengthen alignment and guide implementation.

The Chief Engineer of NCREC, Mrs. Feng Yanhong, highlighted improvements in state-level energy data management, renewable resource assessment, and infrastructure planning, noting that “the results reflect the value of Nigeria–China technical collaboration.”

Dr. Mustapha commended the progress recorded so far, emphasising that strong subnational planning is vital to achieving Nigeria’s long-term energy goals.

The meeting also outlined next steps, including further capacity building for SEPI Units, enhanced technical support, and preparations to extend SEPI implementation to more states in 2026.

Both NEMIC and NCREC reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Nigeria’s energy transition and strengthening renewable energy cooperation.
