ECOWAS, Mauritania Experts Meet on Regional Statistics

Experts from ECOWAS member states, Mauritania, and other representatives are meeting in Abidjan from March 9 to 13, 2026, to participate in two technical workshops focused on harmonising statistics across the region.

The workshops are organised with support from the Project for the Harmonisation and Improvement of Statistics in West and Central Africa (PHASAOC), a World Bank–funded initiative.

According to a statement from the ECOWAS Commission, the regional project aims to sustainably strengthen national statistical systems and regional institutions.

This will enable participating countries to produce, harmonise, and disseminate reliable and comparable economic and social statistics.

The workshops were officially opened by the Acting Director of Research and Statistics at the ECOWAS Commission, Professor Félix N’Zué, on behalf of the Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Dr. Kalilou Sylla,

The opening ceremony was attended by the Director of Business Statistics Mr AKAFFOU Franck Hervé, and Economic Conditions at Côte d’Ivoire’s National Statistics Agency; Mr. Moritz Meyer, representative of the World Bank; and the representative of Mr. Mohamed El Moctar Ahmed Sidi, Director General of the National Agency for Statistics, Demographic and Economic Analysis (ANSADE) of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
