ECOWAS shares reaction to Guinea’s attempted coup

President of the Republic of Ghana and President-in-Office of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo states that the body is greatly displeased and in disapproval of the imminent coup plot which was attempted at Kaloum, Guinea on September 5, 2021.

The president says, “With great concern and firmness, we condemn the recent political developments which occurred in Conakry, Republic of Guinea.” 

“ECOWAS demands respect for the physical integrity of the President of the Republic, Professor Alpha Condé, and his immediate and unconditional release, as well as that of all the personalities, arrested. It also demands the return to constitutional order.”

ECOWAS reaffirms its disapproval of any unconstitutional political change. She asks the defense and security forces to remain in a posture Republican and expresses its solidarity with the Guinean people and Government.
