Edo Guber Race: LP Dismisses Plans To Field In Weak Candidate

Labour Party in Nigeria, LP has dismissed  plans to field in a weak candidate in the upcoming 2024 off-cycle governorship election in Edo State, Southern Nigeria.

The National Chairman of the Party, Mr. Julius Abure, in a press conference told journalists at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital that his party would field in competent and credible candidate in the election according to the people’s choice.

Mr. Abure said there was “no truth in the allegation because Nigeria had suffered the challenge of bad leadership mainly caused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC”.

The LP National Chairman assured that under his leadership, “there was no plot with the ruling party in Edo state to bungle the chances of a popular candidate come September governorship 2024”.

He assured the people of Edo state that their investments in the party would yield the desired result of becoming a ruling party after the election in September 2024.

The party’s National Leader also said that the party “Now that he  has the privilege, as the national chairman of this party, “cannot be seen doing less” than what he believes in.

Mr. Abure further assured the people of Edo that “the Labour Party primaries will be transparent and competitive”.

He emphasised that “Members of the party will determine who becomes the guber candidate of the party”.

The Labour Party’s National Chairman further denied of “aligning with the governor to bring a weak candidate, an unpopular candidate.”

He further denied that the leadership “have been bribed to shortchange the party.

“I can say clearly that we are the only opposition party in Nigeria and our presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said very clearly that we will play the role of opposition effectively.” He noted

He said  he cannot shortchange his party, and that he “cannot do any dis-service to the party”.

“I will remain a worthy, credible ambassador of the party,” he added.
