Edo State Goes to Polls

The people of Edo State in Southern Nigeria are set to vote in a new governor.

Seventeen candidates are vying for the topmost office of Edo state, with only one woman on the list.

The race is also being seen as three tight race among the All Progressives Congress, APC’s Senator Monday Okpebholo, People’s Democratic Party’s Asue Ighodalo and Olumide Apata of the Labour Party.

According to the Independence National Electoral Commission, INEC, 2,128,288 permanemt Voters Cards, PVCs were collected by registered voters.

While 373,030 Permanent Voter Cards were yet to be collected by registered voters in the state.

Some residents of Benin who spoke with Voice of Nigeria, urged INEC to ensure that the voices of the people are heard through the ballots.

While many people said they were eager to exercise their franchise, some were undecided while others said that they wouldn’t vote because their votes might not count.
