Education Minister Orders Speedy Completion Of Nuclear Energy Curriculum

Education Minister, Prof Tahir Mamman has directed the National Universities Commission (NUC) to expedite action towards the completion of the Nuclear Energy Curriculum.

He said this would enable some Nigerian Universities and the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission as well as Polytechnics to begin the training of Nuclear Scientists and Technologists locally.

Professor Mamman gave the directive through the Minister of state for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu when he received in audience, the leadership of the Nigerian Nuclear Energy Commission who paid him a courtesy call in his office in Abuja.

He said; “The Nigerian Government will prioritise the award of Scholarships to students wishing to study Nuclear Science and related courses within and outside the country.” 

The Director-General of the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), Prof. Yusuf Ahmed told the Minister that his Commission was currently partnering with Korea and China to meet its training needs for Nuclear Scientists, saying there was need for the country to look inward in this regard.

Prof. Ahmed emphasised that human capital development is critical for the country in the pursuit of a Nuclear programme in meeting her energy and pharmaceutical needs.
