The Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa has called for value re-orientation among Nigerian Youths
Bawa made the call during an anti-corruption sensitisation campaign at the College of Health Technology, Offa in Kwara State.
The Chairman who was represented by the Head, Public Affairs Arm of the Ilorin Zonal Office of the EFCC in Kwara State, Ayodele Babatunde said that the anti-corruption crusade was part of the preventive measures by the Commission to sensitise Nigerians on the ills of corruption and win public support for the fight.
He spoke on “EFCC And The Role Of The Youths In Curbing Cybercrime.”
Bawa bemoaned the terrible effects of drug abuse and internet fraud on the youth, warning that the future was bleak unless urgent actions are taken.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to ensure that the love of the country is paramount in their heart in the discharge of their duties, adding that only a patriotic mind possesses the capacity to resist and fight corruption in his sphere of influence.
According to him, “The EFCC believes that the fight against corruption requires all hands to be on the deck for it to be won and therefore, presupposes that it is absolutely within their powers to secure a corruption-free system for Nigeria if they so desire.
He urged them to take up this challenge today as they work together to take Nigeria to greater heights.
“Due to our failure to stop corruption at the initial stage, our nation now struggles to cope with its debilitating pang. As consequences for our lack of proactive response, we are now burdened by the dwindling economy, collapsed infrastructure, ineffective health system, problematic academic system, unemployment and insecurity, among many other social challenges.”
While commending the successes of the Ilorin Zonal Office of the anti-graft agency led by Usman Muktar within the last two years of its creation, the EFCC Chairman emphasized the importance of citizen’s support for the Commission’s efforts in ridding the Nigerian system of corruption.
The Provost of the College, Dr Aliu Abdulrafiu, thanked the Commission’s management for the advocacy visit and promised more collaboration.
