EFCC Urges Law Enforcement Officers To Upgrade Skills For Efficiency

Law Enforcement officers in Nigeria have been urged to imbibe the culture of continuous learning to improve their skills for efficiency in service delivery.

The Acting Executive Chairman of Nigeria’s Anti-graft Agency Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulkarim Chukkol gave the charge in Karu Abuja, at a training programme jointly organised by the Commission and the Nigeria Internet Registration Association, NIRA.

Chukkol, represented by the Commandant, EFCC Academy, Ayo Olowonihi said; “when the brain stops learning, it begins to die so the training is aimed at creating a conducive atmosphere for capacity building and networking among the participants which will foster synergy for better collaboration amongst Agencies in eradicating all forms of crimes in Nigeria.”

The lead facilitator and immediate past president of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association and CEO of Internet Experience Providers of Nigeria, IXPN, Mr. Muhammed Rudman, said the Association identified a need for capacity improvement in cyber security for law enforcement agencies hence the resolve to partner with the EFCC to train other law enforcement professionals.

He said, “All we are trying to do is to bring together the key actors in the security eco-system. The idea is to build a human network where we can collaborate in the private sector and government to see how we can address the issues around cyber security and to provide capacity building.”

Also, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation, Baze University Abuja, Dr. Rislan Kanya, who facilitated the course on Cloud Computing said, “The opportunity is massive, we need to move forward in the digital transformation journey.”

Dr. Kanyan said, as officers keep talking about cloud computing, there is a need to think about how to revamp “our processes and secure our country by effectively leveraging this technology.”

Also at the event, the CEO Cystec Nigeria, Mr. Victor Idonor, and Dr. Daniel Omofoman of the African University of Science and Technology trained the participants on the advanced Use of the Internet and Searching Techniques, and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology respectively.

The Agencies at the training were; the EFCC, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB,Department of State Services, DSS, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Fire Service, and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP.
