Eid-Al- Fitr: Gombe State Governor felicitates with Muslims, calls for unity

The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has felicitated with the Muslim community in the state as they join other Muslims around the world to celebrate the Eid el-Fitr, which marks the successful completion of the 30 days Ramadan fast.

In his goodwill message, the Governor urged Muslims to sustain the lessons of the Holy Month of Ramadan and replicate them in their daily lives for the good of the society.

The Governor tasked the citizenry not to lose sight in the face of the current security challenges bedevilling the country, but to remain resolute and prayerful, with faith that the nation’s trying moment would be over and Nigeria will emerge stronger and more united.

He strongly condemned those calling for the disintegration of the country by a few Nigerians to cause unnecessary tension and divisions among the citizens who have lived in relative peace and harmony.

Governor Yahaya emphasized that his administration would not condone any act that would undermine the corporate existence of the country, but would remain focused in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

He enjoined Muslims to sustain the devotion and other acts of worship performed during the Holy Month of Ramadan, as well as to imbibe the lessons learned during Tafsir sessions for the good of the religion, society and humanity, saying “Nigeria is in dire need of good people with excellent moral standings to overcome the evils being perpetrated by some few who do not mean well for the country. Eid-el-Fitr Festival connotes sacrifice, selflessness, love and obedience to the tenets of Islam. I, therefore, enjoin us to draw enduring lessons from Ramadan and show love to one another as well as promote harmony and peaceful coexistence among our diverse people.

Governor Yahaya implores Muslims to carry over the attributes beyond Ramadan, the same the way the less privileged and those afflicted by poverty and disease during Ramadan was remembered.

He also called on the people of Gombe State to always take advantage of the various Federal Government empowerment programmes to uplift their economic status for the good of their individual selves and families.

The Gombe State Governor, who lamented the rising cases of insecurity, characterized by kidnappings, cattle rustling, banditry, insurgency, and threats of secession from some parts of the country, which he described as threats to peaceful coexistence and harmony among the citizenry said sustained prayers for the nation’s stability was what Nigeria requires at the moment.

While urging the traditional rulers, religious and community leaders to sustain the prevailing peace and security for the socio-economic development of the state, Governor Yahaya assured that his administration remains committed to the provision and implementation of viable projects and programmes aimed at taking the state to the next level of prosperity and development.

He commended the Muslim community and the entire people of the state for their steadfastness in the midst of the challenges, urging them not to despair but to remain hopeful, as well as continue to support the Government in its efforts to guarantee security, wellbeing, and prosperity of the state.
