Eid Al-Fitr: Nigeria Police Bolsters Security Across South-South States

The Nigeria Police Force has dispatched officers to states in the south-south region as part of its preparation for the Eid Al-Fitr celebrations. Cross River State, in particular, witnessed the deployment of substantial human and material resources to enhance security before, during, and after the festive period.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Cross River State Command, Superintendent of Police Irene Ugbo, revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has implemented operational strategies to regulate the movement of individuals and motorists during the celebrations to curb criminal activities across the state’s eighteen local government areas. Ugbo emphasised that the command’s commitment to combating crime remains unwavering.

According to Ugbo, “in furtherance of the command’s fight against crimes and criminality in the state, the Police Commissioner directed the Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOS), Tactical Commanders, Special Squads, Surveillance and patrol teams to embark on continuous and massive raid of identified black spots in their areas of responsibility.”

She stated that the police commissioner directed that such raid be purposeful and credible to be in tune with the standard operating procedure of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The commissioner also admonished Muslims and the Cross River people to celebrate Eid-el Fitri with restrain and decorum, while assured the public of better service delivery. The commissioner urged on good spirited citizens with useful and genuine information to remain focus in supporting the police and sister security agencies in their efforts to ensure peaceful coexistence in the state and nation.” She said.

Similarly, the Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, has assured the people of the command’s preparedness to intensify efforts to combat crime and criminality as well as enhance public safety and security during the Eid A-Fitr celebration.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, Superintendent of Police, Mr. Bright Edafe indicated that the police commissioner gave the assurance while charging all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers in the Command to set up their Areas of Responsibility (AoR) security architecture for proactive, effective policing of the Eid Al-fitr celebration to ensure adequate security throughout the festivities and beyond.

He stated, “The Delta State Police Commissioner, Abaniwonda Olufemi, extends his warmest felicitation to all the Muslim Ummah residents in the state, who are celebrating this auspicious occasion of this year’s Eid-El-Fitr.

“The Commissioner for Police noted that Eid is the epitome of collective happiness, and the month of Ramadan brings us blessings, hence we should learn to shun all differences and promote harmony with the aim to show love and affection for each other according to Allah’s teachings,” Edafe indicated.

He further stated that officers were deployed to all Muslim worship centers, including nooks and crannies of the state, to enhance the security of lives and properties, maintain peace and order, and urge the public to continue to collaborate with the police and other security agencies to enable them to serve the good people of the state better.

“The commissioner advised them to be security conscious, law abiding and take appropriate measures towards personal protection and their personal effects, not only at home also in public spaces such as markets, worship centers, shopping malls and highways,” he added.
