The ultra-modern Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, built under the administration of former Governor Kayode Fayemi, is expected to begin commercial flights early in 2026.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji told selected members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) during a duty tour of the state that six critical components of the airport’s infrastructure have been completed, paving the way for commercial operations.

These infrastructure components include the completion of the runway strip, the extension of the airfield strip from 105 meters to 150 meters, and the establishment of an emergency operations centre.
Others are the procurement of two 500 KVA generators, two firefighting trucks, the construction of a fire station, the procurement of airport security equipment, and the installation of internal perimeter fencing.

According to the governor, “these critical infrastructure are needed for local and international flights bringing passengers for investments and tourism to the state”.
He emphasized his commitment to the six pillars of his administration, namely: governance; youth development and job creation; human capital development; agriculture and rural development; infrastructure and industrialisation; and arts, culture, and tourism.
After three years in office, Governor Oyebanji also revealed that his administration has been working assiduously on road rehabilitation within and outside the state to boost economic development in a state strategically positioned among the agrarian, solid-mineral, and tourism hubs of Osun, Ondo, and Kogi.
