Citizens of Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria, have condemned what they described as the low turn-out of voters at the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

Some of the voters who spoke with Voice of Nigeria lamented that most voters did not come out to exercise their franchise, probably due to insecurity.

One of the voters, Adekunle Sanusi, opined that people did not come out to vote due to fear but those who came out were enthusiastic about their chosen candidate winning.

On her part, Odunola Awodiran who came out to cast her vote said the voting exercise was short, peaceful, smooth and stressless. She expressed confidence that people would still come out to vote because it is their right.

Another voter, Ojo Oludare, who commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad-hoc staff for their early arrival at the polling units, expressed worry at the low voter turnout.

Furthermore, the Executive Chairman of the Ibadan North-East Local Government Area, Ibrahim Akintayo, who described the exercise as going smoothly urged the people to put fear aside and come out to vote.
