The Presidential candidate of People’s Democratic Party PDP Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his Party say about 100 witnesses will testify for them in their petition challenging the election of President-elect, Ahmed Tinubu before the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, Nigeria.
The lead counsel to both Atiku and PDP, Mr. Chris Uche SAN said this on Saturday, at the resumption of proceedings before the court.
Uche said that the anticipated 100 witnesses would include those already listed before the court and those to be subpoenaed.
Atiku and the PDP are in their joint petition marked: CA/PEPC/05/2023, praying the court to among other things, withdraw the Certificate of Return that was issued to the President-elect by INEC.
However, counsel to Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Abubakar Mahmud, SAN, told the court that his client who conducted the disputed election, planned to call two witnesses to defend the poll.
The President-elect, Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC through Mr Solomon Umoh, SAN, said he would call 39 witnesses to defend his challenged victory in addition to those to be subpoenaed.
The APC which was declared as the winner of the February 25 presidential election also announced its intention to call 25 witnesses to establish the victory in addition to those to be subpoenaed.
Also the counsel to Labour Party Presidential candidate and the Party, Mr Away Kalu informed the court his team would present 50 witnesses to testify against the outcome of 2023 Presidential elections.
