The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has commenced distribution of Permanent Voters Cards, PVC, at the 196 Wards in Cross River State, south-south Nigeria.

The Head of Voter Education at the INEC headquarters in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Anthonia Nwobi indicated that the commission’s officials would be at the different ward headquarters to give out the PVCs.

This approach is coming barely a few days after the commission joined the Carnival Calabar 2022 edition as one of the non-competing bands to enhance it’s sensitization campaign on PVCs distribution.

Nwobi, in a statement, indicated that the distribution of PVCs at the wards would start from Saturday, January 7 through Sunday January 15, 2023.

She stated, “the INEC Cross River State officials are coming to your wards for PVC distribution. Please, go to your wards and collect your voters cards. The distribution will start on the following days: Saturday January 7, Sunday January 8, Monday January 9, Tuesday January 10, Wednesday January 11, Thursday January 12, Friday January 13 and Saturday January 14 to end on Sunday January 15.

“Our officials will be there on those days from 9am to 3pm to attend to all those that would be there. Please, remember that the collection of PVCs from Monday January 16 to Sunday January 22 (the last day of collection) will be at 18 INEC Local Government Area offices,” she further stated.

She noted that there had been cases of people going to PVCs distribution centres to collect the voters cards for their father, mother, siblings and even friends.

She argued, “we need the electorates to know that not one person can collect the PVCs on behalf of another person. No, we cannot allow that. PVC cannot be collected by proxy anywhere in Cross River State. So, we are hoping that these information gets to the people and they help us by adhering to simple instructions.”
