The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC says the drop in electricity supply within its coverage area is due to the unavailability of gas supply to the thermal generating companies.

A statement issued by the EEDC Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Emeka Eze and made available to newsmen in Enugu explained that the development has led to low generation of power, while the quantum of daily megawatt hour of energy allocated to distribution companies nationwide also reduced.

According to the statement, “the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, which is EEDC’S primary source of power supply is constrained, as the Company can only transmit what is generated and resort to System Load-shedding to forestall possible system collapse.”

It further said that the situation has impacted on the quality of service to the numerous customers of the distribution company as it currently contends with very low energy allocation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, for distribution.

Mr. Ezeh urged the public to bear with the Power Distribution Company, promising normal supply will begin as soon as the situation improves.

His words: “We seek the understanding of our esteemed customers on the fact that we can only distribute what is allocated to us, and that while this situation is beyond us, it is not also not peculiar to EEDC.”

The EEDC spokesperson said the Company is committed to providing improved services to her esteemed customers, adding that once the situation is addressed, normal distribution would return.
