Spanish player Adri Embarba on Sunday equalled Nigerian Kalu Uche Almeria’s goals record as the oldest player to score a brace for the Rojiblancos.

The 40-year-old Uche had 163 appearances for the Spanish club, scoring 36 goals.

In a La Liga fixture against Deportivo La Coruna in 2010, the former Super Eagles forward grabbed a brace as Almeria claimed a famous 2-0 win away from home.

Uche’s double at the Riazor Stadium made him the oldest player to score a brace in a single match for Almeria, a feat he achieved at the age of 27.

Thirteen years after the feat stood, Embarba scored two late goals against his former club Real Valladolid to send the White and Violets down to the Spanish Segunda while Almeria secured safety, on the final day of the 2022/23 season.

The hosts were leading 3-2, heading into the final minutes, before Embarba converted a late penalty to tie the game and send his old team down into the Segunda Division.

“At 31 years and 28 days, Adri Embarba has become the oldest player to score a brace for Almeria in LaLiga, surpassing the previous record set by Kalu Uche in September 2010 (27y, 315d),” Opta wrote

The Andalucians finished 17th on the log with 41 points — a point more than Valladolid, who finished 18th — and will continue their stay in the topflight league.
