The Director, Centre for Climate Change and Development, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, Anambra State, Professor Chukwumerije Okereke, has urged farmers to embrace organic farming and climate smart agriculture, saying Nigeria loses N15trn annually to impacts of climate change.

The director made this plea at a workshop and event to unveil a project titled “Top 10 Measures for Nigeria to Reach Net Zero,” in Abuja on Thursday. Okereke, who doubles as President, Society for Planet and Prosperity, a non-governmental organization, warned that if appropriate actions were not taken to mitigate the impacts of climate change, Nigeria would be losing N69trn annually by 2050.

Speaking on measures to reduce the amount of anthropogenic emissions, he listed development and promotion of organic agricultural farming, climate smart agriculture that could create jobs and afforestation that could engender sustainable development, among others.
