In a heartwarming display of compassion and generosity, the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) has donated ten brand new fully furnished two-bedroom bungalows, valued at N200 million, to widows in the Oraifite community of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Anambra State.
The official commissioning ceremony took place recently at Radio House Oraifite, marking another significant milestone in the Foundation’s ongoing Touch-A-Life Housing Initiative.
Attendees included Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, who commended Sir Emeka Offor for his dedicated philanthropy and called upon other affluent individuals to follow suit.
He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the principle of being one’s neighbour’s keeper, as embodied in the motto of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), “Onye aghana nwanneya” (be your brother’s keeper).
In her address, Dr. Adaora Emeka Offor, the Vice President of SEOF and the wife of the founder, stressed that the initiative was established four years ago to combat the injustices faced by widows, particularly those whose dignity and rights are often undermined after their husbands’ deaths. She urged the government to enact laws that protect widows and ensure their rights to inheritance and property.
“The Touch-A-Life initiative is about more than just providing housing; it’s a statement against the social norms that dehumanize widows,” Dr. Offor stated. “Today, we are not just giving shelter but restoring dignity and offering a fresh start.”
The event also featured remarks from AIG Chris Okey Ezike (rtd), Chief of Staff to Sir Emeka Offor, who detailed the rigorous selection process for the beneficiaries and highlighted the furnished homes equipped with essential amenities, including a television and a year’s subscription to DSTV. “Each home represents hope and a commitment to uplifting the less fortunate,” Ezike noted.
“This initiative embodies Sir Emeka Offor’s long-term dedication to humanitarian efforts.”
As the widows received their keys, expressions of gratitude filled the air, with many praying for continuous blessings for Sir Emeka Offor and the Foundation’s leadership. The beneficiaries described the contributions as life-changing, reflecting a palpable sense of joy and relief.
Dr. Offor closed her address by acknowledging the lasting impact of recently deceased supporters, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and Hon. Onyeka Onwenu, urging those present to advocate for change against societal injustices faced by widows.
“Let’s continue to build not just houses, but hope. Life may be unpredictable, but the impact we make can resonate forever,” she said.
The event concluded with Sir Emeka Offor reaffirming his commitment to furthering the Foundation’s mission, assuring that this initiative is only the beginning of broader efforts to empower marginalized groups within the community.
The occasion was further dignified by the presence of various notable individuals, including Mrs. Karimatu Mohammed Ali Pate, wife of the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, and Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
