Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Bayero, receives Staff of Office

Nigerian President Mohammadu Buhari has tasked traditional leaders in Nigeria including, the newly coronated Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Ado Bayero to work earnestly for peace and security of the nation.

President Buhari gave the advice at a ceremony on the official presentation of staff of office to the Emir of Bichi, held at the Bichi Township Stadium, Bichi local Government Area of Kano state.

He said the prevailing social and political conditions in the country demand such roles of the traditional leaders more than ever before.

“Im delighted to congratulate you most passionately on the occasion of your well-deserved installation as the Emir of Bichi 

 “Your turbaning of the Emir of is a providential one at a time like this in the history of our Nigeria, when the prevailing social and political conditions have created an opportunity for emerging leaders to prepare their qualities and work earnestly for continued peace and security of the country,” said the President.

 

He further advised the emir to emulate his father, the late Emir of Kano Abdulahi Ado Bayero, who was a symbol of unity in Nigeria, a man who use to pursue issues he believes in to logical conclusion.

 

“I remember with nostalgia and fondness the passion and commitment with which he has contributed, the distinguished character he exhibited on any course he believed in, that almost cost him his life prematurely on the 13 of January 2013 because of his perseverant stance against the Boko Haram terrorists. I am confident that you will exhibit such leadership qualities and lot more as you have contributed in the few months of your honouring,” said the President.

The President was represented at the occasion by his chief of staff Professor Ibrahim Gambari, who led the delegation of the federal government.

Bichi Emirates is one of the four (4) newly created Emirates in Kano state two years ago, in addition to the existing Kano emirate bringing the total to five. Others are Rano, Gaya, Karaye.

Kano state Governor, Dr Umar Ganduje urged the Emir of Bichi to use his wealth of experience as a banker, business mogul and former traditional leader to govern the emirate Council well.

“I urge you to support the government so that there will be synergy in delivering the dividends of democracy to the grassroots,” said Ganduje.

Emir Nasiru in the acceptance speech promised to rule and pursue things of common interest to the grassroots which includes standard Western and Islamic education.

Others, he said includes: clean water supply, quality and affordable healthcare services, good and accessible linking roads as well as issues of afforestation by planting trees to reduce the challenges of high temperature being experienced because of climate change.

We are going to contribute to the progress and development of Bichi especially in the education and health sectors as well as the modern methods of farming.”

 “We shall continue to seek the support of the state and federal governments towards developing the Bichi Emirate especially for the construction of feeder roads to support the grassroots economy and provision of social amenities to reduce the scourge of poverty,” said the Emir.

Decoration of the Emir in white royal regalia, hood, swords and other traditional working items was done by the Madaki of Bichi, while the staff of office as a symbol of authority was presented to the Emir by the Kano state Governor Dr. Umar Ganduje. The presentation was heralded by 12 traditional gunshots.

A mini Durbar was held at the event with elegantly dressed horsemen riding decorated horses supported by renditions from traditional drummers and trumpeters.
