Engineering Professionals Elect First Female President

The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE has elected its first female president, Mrs. Margaret Aina Oguntala in the 65 years of its existence.

 

The outgoing President of the Society, Mr. Tasiu Sa’ad Gidari-Wudil, announced in a press briefing at NSE headquarters in Abuja.

 

The NSE also elected other members of the National Executive through voting conducted online on Thursday, November 21, 2023.

 

Mrs Oguntala will take over the reins of the Society from January 1, 2024, and following the laws of the NSE, will be in charge for 2 years.

 

The election which was supposed to be held during the NSE’s last Annual General Meeting held in November was postponed due to a court injunction initiated by one of the contestants.

 

According to Mr Gidari-Wudil, the election was held after the court case was closed.

 

He further expressed his appreciation to the members of the Society who gave him support during his time as President

 

“On this note, I wish to inform the general public that the state of affairs of the Nigerian Society of Engineers is stable and robust. 

 

“I give special appreciation to the Almighty God for the grace He gave me to lead the affairs of our Great Society in the last two years. Let me also salute my team members (Executive Committee Members) for the unalloyed support they gave me, and for all that we achieved together. I hereby wish to crave the indulgence of the newly elected Executive Committee Members to extend that same support to the incoming President.

Finally, to all the members of our great Society, I send my sincere appreciation for the trust they reposed in us to offer leadership in the last two years. Even though there may have been a few challenges here and there, I am happy that we are leaving a united house,” he said.
