Enoch Adegoke Wins Nigerian Athletics Championships, Qualifies For Olympics
Enoch Adegoke stormed to a new Personal Best (PB) of 10.00s (+1.2) to win the men’s 100m at the 2021 Nigerian Olympic Trials and Invitational Relays at the Sports Complex of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), thereby qualifying for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.
2019 African Junior Champion, Adegoke, has won four of his finals and was looking to unseat Usheoritse Itsekiri as the defending Champion.
Getting a bye into the semis, Adegoke thought he had punched his ticket to Tokyo when he stopped the clock at exactly 10.05s in the semis, but his joy was cut short when it was rounded up to 10.06s.
One hour later he was on the track again, this time for the final. With a PB of 10.12, a time he set on this same track at the 2nd Making of Champions Grand Prix in 2019, Adegoke got off to a great start. With three-time former National Champion Seye Ogunlewe breathing down his neck, Adegoke held his nerve to come through for the win.
Defending champion from 2019, Itsekiri, came through for 2nd with a Season’s Best of 10.07s, while Ogunlewe equalled his PB of 10.11s to complete the top 3. Brume Okeoghene placed 4th.
