Enugu Assembly Tells Health Agency Not To Fabricate Beneficiaries List
The Enugu State House of Assembly in Southeast Nigeria, has urged the Universal Health Coverage to ensure the names in its list of beneficiaries were not fictitious.
The Chairman, House Committee on Health, Mr Sam Ngene, gave the advice on Thursday, when the committee monitored the on-going health scheme at Abakpa-Nike Health Centre.
Ngene said that “having fictitious names on the list would defeat the aim of establishing the agency.”
Free healthcare
He said that the scheme’s objective is to provide free healthcare to the residents, in line with the agenda of the state government.
The lawmaker warned the health centre management against asking beneficiaries to pay for treatment.
According to him, “all treatments accessed under the scheme, including delivery, are entirely free.”
Ngene urged residents of Abakpa and its environs to enroll in the scheme to enable them to benefit maximally from it.
He advised the Officer in-charge of the centre, Mrs Grace Nwobodo, to ensure that intending enrollees were captured immediately.
A member of the Committee, Mr Jeff Mba, commended the State Government for prioritising the health of the residents, especially the poorest of the poor.
She thanked the lawmaker and promised that the centre would work with the advice “to ensure that residents of the area benefit from what is meant for them”.
Some beneficiaries of the scheme at the centre also expressed gratitude to the State Government for the initiative.
