A non-governmental organization, BookmySchool has donated over 400 books to Central School, Obioma in Udi local government area of Enugu state, South-Eastern Nigeria as part of efforts to enhance the quality of education.
Making the donations, the leader of the team, Emmanuel Chukwu said that the move was one of the ways the organization sets up libraries for public schools, noting that most Nigerian public schools do not have libraries.
While stating that the ultimate goal was to bridge the gap between teaching and learning, Chukwu disclosed that BookmySchool sources books from individuals, friends, families and donate such to community and public schools which can not afford these books and ensure a library is set up.
Receiving the donations, Prince Iyke Chioke, Group Managing Director of Afri–Invest West Africa, commended BookmySchool and said that the process of deepening the quality of education in Obioma, by expanding their knowledge and understanding is already on the way.
“We will now enter into the level of building out a library system for the school and probably we are going to make it an e-library and have internet access in the school with an ICT centre that would be coming up too
“The very first time i wanted to receive a donation from BookmySchool, we didn’t have the facilities to receive them. Therefore i decided that i will build a school. And building a school is not just enough if there are no books for the pupils and students. That was what motivated me in building this facility for my community.“
“I want to bring the telecommunications capacity and information age into my local community so that a child in a private school in Ikoyi, Lagos would not have any advantage over a child in this public school in Obioma, my community.”
The 21-seaters 40 classroom block is to house smart programmers between the ages of 12-14 who could through computers, work for companies and earn salaries to support themselves without leaving their homes.
It would be recalled that in 2021 when the school was commissioned, the Group Managing Director, Afri Invest West Africa, Iyke Chioke, who also built the school, said education was key to lifting the future generations out of poverty with quality primary education.
