Nigeria’s representative in the Caf Champions league Enyimba Football Club will hope to bounce back in the second round of matches after losing their opening game 1 -0 against Zamalek of Egypt at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt.

Enyimba started the match brightly but it was the Egyptians who took the lead in the 8th minute of the game through a Basem Morsy header.

Zamalek’s goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy was called to action in the 21st minute but he responded well by tipping Kelly Kester’s volley over the post while Joseph Osadiaye blazes over a decent opportunity on the edge of the box in the 42nd minute.

Enyimba wasted a number of chances to equalize in the second half with Zamalek holding on to the victory and taking away all the 3 points.

In the other Group B encounter, South African side Mamelodi Sundowns recorded an away victory with a 2-0 victory over ES Setif of Algeria with goals from Tiyani Mabunda and Khama Billiat

In group A, Salaheddine Saidi’s goal was enough to hand his side Wydad Athletic a 1-0 victory over Ivorian team Asec Mimosas in Abidjan while Zesco United of Zambia outscored Egyptian side Al-Ahly of Egypt by 3-2.

After the first round of matches, Mamelodi Sundowns lead group A with 3 points followed by Zamalek who also have 3 points but with inferior goal difference. Enyimba is occupying the 3rd position with 0 points while ES Setif is fourth on the table.

Zesco United are top of group B with Wydad Athletic closely following them while Al Ahly is third on the table with Asec occupying the bottom.
