Interim manager of Manchester United Michael Carrick has hailed his team’s midfielders for stifling Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

United fought valiantly to secure a 1-1 draw against the EPL top team on Sunday to set the right tone for the incoming manager Ralf Rangnick to steer the Red Devils back to the top.

Despite enjoying more possession, the United midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Fred and Scott McTominay made sure they left South London unbeaten.

Carrick was obviously impressed.

I thought the three of them were fantastic. We tried to make it as predictable as we could so we forced them into certain spaces and avenues that we could adapt to and I thought Nemanja, Scotty and Fred were top-drawer today (Sunday),” he said.

The former England midfielder also had a mention for Scott McTominay.

Scotty at times had to drop into the backline and Hudson-Odoi was pulling into little areas, pulling wide at times, Alonso was inside off the line and they put five and six across that frontline so we needed Scotty at times to drop in. Between the three of them they were terrific.”

Heroics

It seems the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjær has given the team a breath of fresh air.

More so for goalkeeper David De Gea who seemed to live a charmed life in front of goal.

The Spaniard was voted  Man of the Match by United supporters as he stood between a wave of Blue attacks and goals.

Jadon Sancho has started showing signs of what he can do as he pounced to give United the lead – his second goal in a row.

The 1-1 result sets up a nicely anticipated meeting with another London side  Arsenal  on December 2.

Old Trafford will surely be bouncing Thursday night.
