Equities Market Closes Red, Index Drops 1.02%

Trading activities on the equities market of the Nigerian Exchange closed in red on Friday, erasing the gains of the past four days as the all-share index depreciated by 1.02% to close at 108,053.95 points compared with 109,172.04 recorded on Thursday.

In like manner, the market capitalisation dropped by N698 billion to close the day at N68,116 trillion as against N67,418 of the previous day.

The market breadth, however, closed in green with 38 gainers and 28 losers at the end of the day’s trading.

Royal Exchange, UPDC and The Initiates emerged as the top three gainers for the day, with 10%,9.88% and 9.09% appreciation to close at N.099k, N3.78k and N4.05k per share, respectively.

For the decliners, BUA Foods came out last with a 10% price loss and a closing price of N373.50k, followed by Daar Communications with a 9.09% loss and a closing price of N0.70k then Aradel Holdings lost 6.9% to close at N530.00.

The banking sector dominated trading, with Sterling Bank recording the highest volume of 88.6 million shares, followed by Acess Holdings with 29.7 million shares.

At the end of the day’s trading, a total of 488,75 million shares valued at N13.91 billion were traded in 15,613 deals.
