Equities: Second day bearish close at NGX

Trading of equities on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited, NGX has sustained its negative trend for the second day this week, loosing 0.18%.

Specifically, the Market Capitalization declined 0.18% or ₦47.33bn from N25,561 trillion to N25,514 trillion. The All-Share Index also fell 0.18% or 87.81 basis points to close at 47,340.86 basis points from 47,428.67 basis points.

Tuesday’s loss is attributed to continued selloffs in SEPLAT ENERGY PLC share which declined 3.03%, GUARANTY TRUST HOLDING COMPANY PLC shares which fell 1.87% and MTN NIGERIA COMMUNICATIONS PLC shares which loss 0.24%.

Analysing the day’s market activities has shown a decline in trade activities relative to yesterday’s session with a total of 183.26m shares valued at ₦2.48bn being exchanged in 3,779 deals.

UNITED BANK FOR AFRICA PLC was the most traded stock by volume at 23.41 million units, while SEPLAT ENERGY PLC was the most traded stock by value at N531.29 million.

Consequently, 15 stocks gained relative to 22 decliners.

VERITAS KAPITAL ASSURANCE PLC topped the gainers chart today by 0.01k or 4.76% from 0.21k per share to 0.22k per share. CHAMS PLC was next with a 0.01k or 4.55% gain from 0.22k per share to 0.23k per share. Then ETERNA PLC upped from N5.04k per share to N5.25k per share by 0.21k or 4.17%.

On the flip side however, CORNERSTONE INSURANCE PLC led the decliners falling from 0.68k per share to end the day at 0.62k per share, loosing 0.06k or 8.82%.

Next is MULTIVERSE MINING AND EXPLORATION PLC which declined from 0.24k per share to 0.22k per share by 0.02k or 8.33%. While S C O A NIG. PLC. fell from N2.60k per share to N2.40k per share by 0.20k or 7.69%.

Performance across sectors was mixed as the Insurance index fell 1.9%, Oil & Gas index fell 1.6% and Banking index declined 0.1%, while the Consumer Goods index gained 0.2% index even as the Industrial Goods index closed flat.
