The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) is back in Nigeria to present its final report and recommendations at a press conference scheduled to hold tomorrow, Tuesday, 27th June 2023 at 14:00 hrs WAT in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
It would be recalled that the EU EOM since the beginning of January has observed the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections as well as the March 18 Governorship and State Houses of Assemblies elections.
The European Union deployed an election observation mission after an invitation from the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC).
The mission’s mandate was to observe all aspects of the electoral process and assess the extent to which the elections comply with regional and international standards for elections and national legislation.
Ahead of the public presentation the Chief Observer and Head of the Delegation, Barry Andrews, today Monday, met with the Chairman of the INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, alongside National Commissioners of the INEC.
Barry Andrews also briefed the EU Heads of Mission.
According to the EU, it has observed all general elections in Nigeria since 1999.
